Dr Khandkar Ali Kawsar serves as the Chair of the DMC UK Alumni Board. He is a highly trained neurosurgeon with specialist expertise in complex spinal surgery. He completed his neurosurgical and spinal surgical training abroad, with advanced clinical training across leading centres in Birmingham, London, and Leeds. As part of his subspecialty development, he undertook a complex spinal fellowship within the combined departments of Neurosurgery and Orthopaedics in London, followed by a second advanced neuro-spinal fellowship in Leeds, focusing on the management of complex and challenging spinal conditions. He is currently serving at the Royal Infirmary of Edinburgh, where he has been practising for over four years with a dedicated interest in complex spine surgery, managing the full spectrum of spinal pathologies. Dr Kawsar is recognised for his excellent surgical outcomes, with a consistently low complication rate, reflecting his strong commitment to patient safety and evidence-based clinical practice. Alongside his NHS role, Dr Kawsar is actively involved in private practice at Spire Edinburgh Hospitals, where he continues to provide high-quality, patient-centred care. His professional interests include advanced spinal techniques, multidisciplinary collaboration, and continuous improvement in neurosurgical outcomes.
